The haunting, alt-country melodies of Mariel Buckley are not easily forgotten among the polished, typical tunes of modern country music. Amidst the sea of neon-Nashville superstars, Buckley offers a crunchy, roots alternative. Fresh from her 2015 Calgary Folk Music Festival debut; Buckley is in the early stages of planning her second full-length album. The disc will be a follow up to the celebrated ‘Motorhome’, which garnered praises nation wide from CBC, CKUA, CJSW, and CJSR; as well as the ever reputable ‘No Depression’ Magazine. She’s been referred to as “…the next Loretta Lynn…” with “…hints of Bruce Springsteen and Patsy Cline all rolled into one.” Although the comparative musical shoes to fill are quite sizeable, Buckley brings a magnetic stage presence to every show; pushing her abilities above and beyond to earn her slot in the Canadian Roots scene. After forming a band in early 2015, Buckley can mostly be seen around Western and Central Canada as ‘Mariel & The Jealous Hearts’. The group plays primarily as a trio, and accommodates any style venue with an impressive catalogue of covers and heartfelt originals. Expect updates to come for a western Canadian tour in the spring of 2016, as well as a heavy festival season ahead. This young, feisty songstress has picked up some steam and doesn’t intend on slowing down.
