Safer Spaces Coordinator

ABOUT THE POSITION

Working with the Artistic Directors, and Board of Directors, the volunteer Safer Spaces Coordinator will recruit, train and manage safer spaces volunteers for the festival and special Femme Wave specific events. Additionally, this role is required to ensure the festival provides a safe and inclusive space for all attendees, artists and participants through our Safer Spaces initiative.

Tasks and Expectations

  • Recruit, train, schedule and manage a team of safer spaces volunteers
  • Create and execute Volunteer Agreement for each safer spaces volunteer to be submitted for Board approval and other volunteer procedures as required
  • Be the direct contact for safer spaces volunteers – requires follow-through and quick response time
  • Coordinate training through a reputable organization (such as the Calgary Sexual Health Centre) for Safer Spaces volunteers
  • Review and understand the Femme Wave safer spaces policy, and suggest amendments to the policy if necessary
  • Distribute safer spaces policy to all board and committee members, volunteers and artists involved with the festival, ensuring policy is understood by everyone participating in Femme Wave
  • Coordinate with venue staff about accessibility and Safer Spaces policy implementation, ensuring policy is understood and practiced at all venues
  • Put up and take down safer spaces signage at each venue
  • Coordinate safer spaces volunteer recognition after festival

Time Commitment

Year-round as required, with a minimum of 2 months prior to festival to recruit, schedule and train the Safer Spaces volunteers. Will require full dedication of time during festival weekend, November 15 – 18, 2018.

Community Outreach and Sponsorship Coordinator – Job Description

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Community Outreach and Sponsorship Coordinator will be one of the cornerstone participants in growing Femme Wave within the community, securing sponsorship proceeds, and maintaining quality relationships with partners. Through thoughtful and dedicated leadership and teamwork, this person will facilitate the expansion of Femme Wave into a landmark arts festival in Calgary.     

The Community Outreach and Sponsorship Coordinator will begin work immediately through to December 15 2018, with the possibility of extension. Time commitments will vary and increase into October and November, when the festival takes place, but will average 5-10 hours per week. Hours are flexible and will vary. This is an unpaid volunteer position.

Community Engagement and Outreach Goals:


Foster and maintain strong partnerships with both local and national organizations.

    • Build relationships and develop engagement strategies with potential funding agencies and sponsors
    • Grow a large network of community partners by researching and engaging with organizations holding similar values
    • Develop clear models of sponsorship, partnerships, donors, etc. by reviewing and developing sponsorship packages, and sponsorship and partnership contracts.

Coordinate and supervise activities of the Community Outreach & Sponsorship committee in collaboration with the head of the committee and its members.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Proven experience in a similar role is necessary for the success of this position.
  • Experience in marketing, event management, and non-profits are all valuable.  
  • Experience and/or familiarity with the Calgary arts community is a strong asset, but not required.

ABOUT FEMME WAVE
Femme Wave is a feminist arts festival. The festival takes place annually in November across multiple inner-city venues and has enjoyed considerable growth since its inception. Founded in 2015, it is a collective-run organization with board and committee members of diverse and varying backgrounds.
