Note to queer, trans, non-binary, Black, Indigenous, racialized, disabled and other equity-deserving folx: Femme Wave recognizes that it functions within systems and structures that create significant barriers that may cause people to self-exclude from opportunities to work with us. We encourage you to apply if you are excited about the vision of Femme Wave and share with is how you would like to contribute.

OVERVIEW
Femme Wave is a feminist arts festival based in Mohkinstsis (Calgary), which is located in Treaty 7 territory and the traditional lands of the Blackfoot or Nitsitaapi people. Treaty 7 is also home to many Indigenous people from all across Turtle Island, including the Metis people of Region 3. Founded in 2015, it is a collective-run nonprofit organization with a Board of Directors and committee members of diverse and varying backgrounds. The festival takes place annually across multiple inner-city venues and has enjoyed considerable growth since its inception. You can learn more about the organization here.

SCOPE
Femme Wave is looking to recruit for our Board of Directors to lead the next phase of our growth and evolution. Over the last 18 months, Femme Wave has been engaging in anti-racism work, community conversations, and reflections on the organizational structure, vision, and value within the communities it serves.

We’re looking for creative ideas to build on what we’ve learned already, and to help plan next steps in Femme Wave’s development. As such, we are looking for new members to add to our Board to help us grow together.

Some internal ideas were identified in our 2020 community survey, which you can find here, and will guide our next steps.
In addition to helping to evolve the future of Femme Wave, Directors also regularly review the organization’s financial statements, approve the annual budget, and, in step with our community and leadership, help make the decisions that will guide Femme Wave into its next chapter.

Directors are part of the public face of the organization and occasionally represent Femme Wave at events. Directors hold two-year terms, with the option to seek re-election for up to five consecutive terms.

As a Director of the Board, you would:

  • Attend all regularly scheduled board meetings
  • Represent Femme Wave in interviews, articles, podcasts
  • Ensure all projects are worked on through anti-racist lens
  • Work on governance and organizational change
  • Oversee funding strategies and grant applications
  • Bring new ideas and thoughts to how to grow as an arts organization in a constantly changing world

Please note that all Board positions are voluntary roles.

If you would like to contribute to the future of Femme Wave, please email  board@femmewave.com with “APPLICATION: Board of Directors” as the subject.
